Lovat Sköld

Name

Lovat Sköld

Concept

Ferociously loyal bodyguard for hire.

Power

Interpose: If an ally fails a defense roll, Lovat may pay one fate point to take that damage in their place. This may be used against both physical and mental attacks.
If this ability is used to prevent a melee attack, Lovat may make an immediate counterattack.

  • Fate Points: 3
  • XP: 1
  • Spent XP: 4

Aspects

Stone Wall: Lovat is a big and very solid man. He can shrug off blows that would kill or at least disable a normal person.

The Promised Shield: Lovat will do almost anything to protect his allies, especially his charge. To not do so is against his nature.

Out of Place: Wherever he’s from is very far away from Earth. Lovat has little familiarity with, and a dislike for, technology advanced beyond the point of, say, a cannon. Every so often, someone with knowledge of certain distant places will recognize Lovat, or at least what he is. The most common reaction is anger.

Soul of a Poet: Lovat's not the sort for honey'd words, but even in silence he has the soul of a poet.

Personal History

Lovat has been in the library for several years, though he will often disappear for months at a time. The reason is no secret. Lovat is a bodyguard of the highest quality. His only seeming requirement is that whoever hires him is likely to need it. And, if he is hired, he will only stay with his charge as long as they need him.
Lovat tends to be a very obedient person. He will do what his charge asks unless what they ask is unnecessarily cruel or likely to expose them to harm. When his charges are attacked, Lovat always seems to be in the way of whoever, or whatever, is attacking. It isn’t simply a matter of him moving fast, though for a man of his size he certainly does. Lovat seems to attract blows meant for his charge.

Lovat is tall, broad, and muscular. He is covered in battle-scars, which he does not hide. He usually wears a leather tunic and carries a sheathed long sword and a round metal shield. The shield is etched with small, dense writing in a strange, sharply angled language.
